Victorian Plexipave agent Wm. Loud (Aust) Pty Ltd has successfully transformed what can only be described as a mud heap into a fantastic, all weather play area at St Peters Primary School in the Melbourne suburb of Hoppers Crossing.

An existing sparsely grassed play area of around 800m2 was replaced with a flexible pavement surfaced with Plexipave Acrylotex.The original area was a heavily used "grassed" area which was never able to recover and re-grass due to the high volume of traffic. In moderately reactive ground conditions a 390mm total pavement with perimeter agricultural drains was constructed incorporated railway ballast, crushed rock and an asphalt wearing course. A section of perimeter concrete path and drainage works completed the project to provide a free draining multi-use play area incorporating lines for bat tennis. The Acrylotex finish provided the perfect solution to thespecification for a surface that could withstand anything that school children could throw at it, combined with an attractive finish that iseasily maintained. The end result is an area that was once a dustbowl in summer and an unusable mud heap in winter, has been transformed intoan attractive, easily maintained all season play area.
